Army Doctrine Publication 3-07 defines stability operations — how Army forces work alongside civilian agencies and partners to establish conditions that allow a lasting, stable peace after conflict.

Six Army stability tasks (establish civil security, support to civil control, restore essential services, support to governance, support to economic and infrastructure development, conduct security cooperation), four fundamentals of stabilization, five end state conditions, four stability mechanisms (compel/control/influence/support), five stability sectors, legitimacy factors, DDR, SSR, peace operations, lines of effort, and assessment tools.
Stability doctrine is tested at boards for Soldiers with deployment experience in complex environments. Boards ask about the six stability tasks — note the 2019 edition added "Conduct Security Cooperation" as the sixth task. Knowing the four stability mechanisms and what legitimacy means in an operational context demonstrates doctrinal maturity.
